From African Roots to Liberty, Missouri

Our story begins with an African childhood, family visits filled with language, food, and long conversations under evening skies. Years later, life in Liberty, Missouri added new layers, including nursing, community work, and cultural programming. Friends watched those regular returns to Kenya and started asking, "Can we come too?" Their trust, and their fears, shaped how we began walking travelers step by step into Africa with calm, informed guidance.

From Cultural Curator to Travel Host

Before Tivona ever booked a flight, we were curating AfroKC Festival, museum exhibitions, and community events that centered African textiles, music, and story. Those gatherings taught us how to hold space for people who were curious yet cautious, who wanted depth, not performance. As more guests asked us to guide them back to Kenya, informal help slowly grew into structured private-guided trips, grounded in real relationships with local guides, resorts, artisans, and everyday community life.

Guided by Core Values

Every Tivona trip rests on three simple promises. We honor culture with respect, not spectacle. We provide personal support, so you always know who is looking out for you. We plan with safety and preparation at the center, from visas to village visits. These values come directly from our healthcare and community roots, and they shape how we care for each traveler, whether it is a first safari or a long-awaited return.

Trusted Support

We build every itinerary on real relationships with Kenyan guides, hosts, and community partners.

Cultural Connection

Our cultural work and Tivona World connections bring you into living Kenyan stories with care.

Travel Preparation

We center education, safety, and stepwise guidance so you arrive informed, calm, and confident.

Suzanne Wanja

Suzanne carries Kenya in her memory, her language, and her daily work in Liberty, Missouri. As a Nurse Practitioner, cultural curator, and founder of the AfroKC Festival, she has spent years holding space where people feel both safe and deeply seen. Those same instincts now guide Tivona Tour and Travel. Suzanne travels back to Kenya regularly, sitting with local guides, artisans, and hoteliers to plan trips that feel personal, not packaged.

She understands what first-time Africa travelers worry about, and she answers those questions gently, step by step. Under her leadership, our team blends medical-level attention to safety with the warmth of visiting extended family. Suzanne invites you into Kenya with the care of someone who knows both sides of the ocean and wants you to feel at home on each shore.
